Finding the Time

Now you see it. Now you don't!

Turned out that President Bush merely slipped the watch into his pocket early on while greeting the cheering crowd. Apparently, the Albanian public are offended over the way news agencies played it out - as if the timepiece was stolen by someone in the crowd. Tsk. What some people do to get a story. Albania may be the poorest country in Europe, but that's no reason to automatically brandish it as the land of thieves!

Non-mystery solved. Interestingly enough, the watch is very modest by presidential standards. George W. Bush wears a $50 Timex watch around his wrist. Nothing fancy but it does the job. In comparison, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi wears a Vacheron Constantin watch (approximately $540,000), Russian President Vladimir Putin wears a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar ($60,000) while Arnold Schwarzenegger wears an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ($25,000). Meanwhile, Tony Blair of UK also chooses practicality by wearing a Swatch (similar to this writer). Info for who wears what were taken from The Times.
